Yes there are various options to fly back to Kuala Lumpur from UK and No there are not many choices is there is certain values that you adhere to when choosing your options.
There are different possible routes, like checking Air india, Thai Airways, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Austria airline, Malaysia Airline. The most adventurous one would be via Oasis -from UK to Hong kong, then superjet to Macau, Air asia from Macau to KL.
The value behind my choice would be cost, as i think it's ridiculous to pay more just because they dictate the price.
Apart from cost, this exercise made me realised the most important philosophy of life : it's always a battle between money and time.
Say from my airline choices, i save £300 , but i spent 12 hours more on plane and transiting in airport, while if i choose direct flight, MAS, i spent £300 more, but have 12 hours more to spend with my family.
So is life. Some parents are busy earning a living, which i find it especially worrying in Hong Kong when i saw the maid spending the whole day with the children. These parents missed their child's sports day, or school musical concert. In their child's memories , dad or both dad and mum were not there. They were just not present in their lives. For us, we may compromise our time with our loved ones with our own agenda.Henri Nouwen articulate it very well.
" Be Present"
Another scenario, we are physically present, "spending time" with our family or friends, but we were not present. Our minds were thinking about a contract at work, or some appointment with client. We were not listening with our hearts and we were not present. Another presentation of self-centredness.
These absence pretty much explain teenagers who rebel, parents can't seem to communicate with them, partly because parents themselves have not been present in their growing up. Parents have strive all their life for comfort and money , thinking that these are what their family wanted. Only to realise that it was all wrong from the beginning.
Surprisingly, the child prefer staying in a smaller house, sharing room with his/her siblings yet can spend time having dinner with everyone in the family, chatting rather than eating meals with him/herself or with the maid.
God said it clearly , through Jesus, that life is not a matter of eating , drinking, or what you should wear, it's about relationship, knowing Him and loving His people from this knowing.
" Do not let the wise man boast of his wisdom, or the rich man boasts of his riches, or the strong man boasts of his strength,
but let him who boast boasts of this: that he understands and knows me, that i am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these i delight," Jeremiah 9:23
"Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man" Ecclesiastes 12:13
The greatest commandment of God is to love Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love others as yourself.
Money or time? I will choose the latter.
