I am now a sunday school teacher and i teach children in the age range of 11-14. I must say they are a lot smarter than i was at that age. Last 2 weeks, the topic was LOVE. I asked them to write down what came to their minid when i said LOVE. Majority of them drew a cartoon of two people coming together, make and female, joined by the heart shape.
We then looked into the bible on a teacher asking Jesus what was the greatest commandment of all. " To love your God with all your heart, all your mind, all your strength and all your soul. " and "to love your neighbour as yourself".
I asked them what is the meaning of love, they answered caring for someone, to help them with their needs.
The message I shared with them was this : LOVE is not based on feeling, Love is a decision, it's a choice.
At times we don't feel like loving those around us, like our sister who fought with us , or being unreasonable, but it's a choice. We can pray and ask God to give us His love to love those who are not loveable.
A good reminder for myself.
